Theory of Change Workshop

Why Our Theory of Change Workshop Was a Game-Changer

Last week, the Social Impact Lab hosted our latest Theory of Change workshop – and the energy in the room was inspiring! We welcomed curious, motivated students from across the university, and the session turned abstract ideas about “making change” into clearer, more focused, and more actionable pathways. Here’s why the workshop was a success, and why we hope it will have a lasting impact on the students who took part.

  1. It turned big ideas into achievable plans

Many students arrive with passion and ambition – they know what they want to change, but not always how to make that change happen. The workshop broke this challenge down into practical steps. By guiding participants to define their long-term goals, identify the outcomes they want to create, and understand the assumptions behind them, the session gave students a roadmap they can apply to any social impact idea.

  1. It boosted clarity and confidence

Through structured activities, students were able to articulate their purpose, sharpen their goals, and communicate their strategy with confidence.

  1. It created a collaborative, supportive space

The workshop wasn’t just about frameworks – it was about people. Students connected with peers who care about similar issues, sharing their ideas, challenging each other’s assumptions, and building shared momentum.

  1. It offered tools students can use again and again

The Theory of Change approach is incredibly versatile. Whether students are launching a social enterprise, planning a community project, preparing a funding bid, or shaping a research impact statement, the same thinking process applies. By giving students a reusable toolkit – not just a one-off lesson – the workshop equipped them with skills that we hope will carry into future modules, careers, and ventures.

  1. It helped students reconnect with their “why”

Perhaps the biggest win of the session was watching students discover the heart of their ideas. The Theory of Change module helped to share a clearer sense of the difference they want to make. That spark of purpose – once lit – is hard to put out.

A meaningful step forward

Our Theory of Change workshop didn’t just teach a method; it unlocked potential. Students walked away with more direction, and a better understanding of how to turn intention into impact. We can’t wait to see what they do next – and we’re excited to support them every step of the way.

If you missed this session, don’t worry – our next workshop is coming up!
