The Social Impact Bootcamp at the University of Southampton’s Delhi campus brought together an exceptional group of students for a high-energy weekend of collaboration, creativity and real-world problem solving. From the outset, the event was defined by its energy and ambition, with students fully engaging from Friday through to Sunday as momentum built across the three days.
At its core, the Bootcamp was about more than just generating ideas – it was about equipping students with the tools, confidence and mindset to create meaningful change. Working in teams, participants tackled real social and environmental challenges, moving rapidly from problem framing to idea development, prototyping and final pitches. The quality of ideas produced was particularly striking: thoughtful, ambitious and grounded in real local challenges in Delhi.

Among the standout teams were Ecosteps, who secured first place with their innovative concept of converting kinetic energy from footsteps into electricity through smart tiles. Their journey reflected the essence of the Bootcamp – refining an idea through feedback, staying resilient through uncertainty, and ultimately developing a practical, scalable solution.
Second place was awarded to Project Amara, which addressed the critical issue of affordable housing in rural India. By developing low-cost, low-emission bricks made from waste materials, the team demonstrated how innovation can simultaneously tackle environmental and economic challenges.
Individual contributions were also recognised, with awards celebrating outstanding effort, teamwork and positivity – further highlighting the collaborative and supportive environment that defined the weekend.

The Bootcamp was a powerful example of knowledge exchange and enterprise in action. By bringing together students, mentors, alumni and industry professionals, the event created a dynamic space where ideas and expertise flowed in multiple directions. This collaborative model ensured that student ideas were both creative and grounded in real-world insight.
A key element of the programme was its partnership with Enactus UK & Ireland, welcoming their CEO Amy Brereton, whose global experience in supporting student-led social enterprises added depth and credibility to the Bootcamp. Her involvement strengthened the learning experience, offering students practical frameworks and inspiration to turn ideas into action.
Importantly, the Bootcamp also played a significant role in strengthening the relationship between the University’s UK and Delhi campuses. It demonstrated how shared initiatives can create a unified culture of innovation and impact across locations, while also empowering students in Delhi to address challenges within their own communities.
For students, the impact of the Bootcamp extended far beyond the weekend itself. Participants developed highly valued professional skills – including communication, teamwork, critical thinking, leadership and adaptability – while also gaining the confidence to pursue their own social enterprises and impact projects. For many, this marked the beginning of a journey into creating change through entrepreneurship.
The success of the Social Impact Bootcamp in Delhi is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when students are given the space, support and challenge to think differently and act boldly. It not only delivered an inspiring and transformative experience, but also laid the foundations for a growing community of student changemakers committed to building a better future.
