Making a Difference (and Knowing It): Measuring Impact Made Simple

Wednesday 4 March 16:00 – 18:00
Student Enterprise Junction, Sir James Matthews Building
If you want your project, campaign, or idea to create real, lasting change, you need more than good intentions – you need evidence.
This hands-on workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of impact measurement and reporting, showing you how organisations track progress, choose the right KPIs, collect meaningful data, and communicate results that funders, partners, and communities can trust.
You’ll explore how impact works in practice – not through heavy theory, but through practical tools, real examples, and interactive activities you can apply immediately.
During the session, you’ll learn how to:
- Define clear goals and outcomes for a project or initiative
- Identify meaningful Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Collect the right qualitative and quantitative data
- Analyse results to understand what’s working – and what isn’t
- Communicate impact clearly, honestly, and confidently
Through case studies, short exercises, and discussion, you’ll begin building an impact framework that can support funding applications, project reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
Why attend?
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with:
- A practical toolkit for measuring and reporting impact
- Stronger analytical and evaluation skills
- Greater confidence explaining outcomes and results
- Transferable skills valued across charities, business, policy, sustainability and consultancy

This session is open to all students, including those who are:
- Interested in social or environmental change
- Involved in societies, volunteering or community projects
- Exploring social enterprise or charity work
- Looking to build employability skills in data, evaluation and reporting
