The latest event in the popular Go Freelance Series welcomed a special guest – Matt Dowling, founder of the Freelancer Club, who delivered an engaging masterclass on all things freelancing at The Student Enterprise Junction.
The session shared expert ‘elite freelancer’ insights in this inspiring session, covering some of the most requested areas of help – from finding your first paying clients to scaling up your freelance operation. Matt shared practical tips on pricing, client relationships, and the realities of working independently – both the exciting opportunities and the challenges that come with being your own boss. His down-to-earth approach and real-world examples really resonated with students who are considering freelancing as either a full-time career or a way to earn extra income alongside their studies.
A major highlight was building on partnership with Matt to give students exclusive access to the Freelancer Club. This platform is packed with online lessons, resources, and mentoring opportunities specifically designed for freelancers at every stage of their journey. It’s a fantastic addition to the support we can offer students interested in going freelance.
The turnout and enthusiasm from students showed just how much interest there is in freelancing as a career path. The networking session afterwards was buzzing with conversations and new connections being made.
This event continues to demonstrate Student Enterprise’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurial students. Students and recent graduates can access support through the Freelance pathway of the Student Enterprise Fund, which provides grants of up to £500 to help kickstart their careers. Additionally, students can access ‘Freelancer Club’, a dedicated platform offering online lessons, resources, and mentoring, along with one-to-one mentoring from the Student Enterprise team.
