Top Ten Myths of Divorce

Below is a link to an article listing the top ten myths about divorce.

http://marriage.rutgers.edu/Publications/pubtoptenmyths.htm

Some interesting fodder for thought. Personally, I would have agreed with myth number six, and number eight surprised me, but was not something I had a strong opinion on to begin with.

What myths do you believe?

Re: If God Really Loves Me Then Why Do Bad Things Happen???

Its a question we all struggle with, but I think it was summed up for me on the day after 9/11. In between all the news reports of the terrible things happening, on the Australian TV stations interviewed a Salvation Army minister here and asked him that same question. His response "Is God in charge of your life? The expected answer of no, was followed up by "Neither was the terrorists."

Unfortunately, we experience bad things. God doesn't control everyone and he doesn't force people to follow him, that is his love expressed too. But as a result, people can pay a hefty price for the choices of others. I don't know how it translates to natural disasters, maybe its the world's reaction to the devastation that mankind enacting upon it. But as you so rightly pointed out, God is there with us in the pain and devastation and using others to bring help, comfort and healing.

Its a tough question and I don't have the answers, but I found this to be somewhat reassuring.

If God Really Loves Me Then Why Do Bad Things Happen???

I was recently asked by someone

"I God really loves us then why do bad things happen in the world like the Tsunami?"

I had to confess to this person that I really had no answer for this question. I was very disheartened by the fact that I had no answer for this question and the really annoying thing was that this question never left my mind for weeks and weeks and weeks!!!!!!!
One night I was thinking phillospohically about it and came to think.

He doesn't love the people affected by the Tsunami. But that can't be right because God is all Loving.
So maybe he loves those affected people but didn't know that the Tsunami was going to happen. But that can't be right because God is all Knowing.
So maybe he loves the affected people and knew that the Tsunami was going to happen but he wasn't powerful enough to stop the Tsunami from happening. But that can't be right because God is all Powerful.

I was stuck with this for a couple of days when an idea came to my head. Possible from God but due to language maybe not!

"excrement happens". We live in a messed up world and its been like that since the dawn of time.

The concept of God is not that he will not protect us from bad things, bad times or bad events. The concept of God is that bad things will happen to us and God may choose to protect us or choose to help us through these times.
God uses these times to teach us and to toughen us and through the experience of hard times we can help others in this messed up world.

Gods love was shown on 26th of December 2004 when the world responded in the way it did. His love was shown when a 6 year old understood the gravity of what had happened and donated his toys to children who had lost theirs. His love was shown when thousands of medical staff gave up their lives to help effected people.

A different perspective on this event would show us that God really does care for us, He really does Love us.

I really would appreciate anyones thoughts of what I've written here.
