Never give up

Things that happen in your life can teach you the most interesting lessons.

Murray was our much loved tabby black and white cat. At 17 1/2 years old, he went out one day six months ago and didn’t come home. We thought he had gone away to die. Until he turned up in Hallam nearly 2 weeks ago.

Back now? Anyway, we are still dealing with the implications of his return. In his, what we now know was an absence, we adopted two kittens, now nearly 9 months old. Murray is also not in good shape - he is so skinny we can feel pretty much every vertebrae, he sleeps a lot, but he is eating and has established himself back at home. I don’t know how long he will be with us, but I will take every moment we have - he really is a wonderful and amazing cat.

So the never give-up part.

We gave up on Murray. Never expected to see him home again. After all, everything was against it happening. He was fast heading towards 18, blind in one eye, pretty deaf and had other health issues requiring medication. Didn’t have that for 6 months - had no reason to believe he would survive such an experience.

Even though he had done something similar to us before, we never expected that at that age he would do it again.

And that’s when I was reminded of the parable of the persistent widow. In Luke 18, Jesus tells of a widow who bothers the Justice so much that he gave her what she wanted. Luke 18: 1 in particular says “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”

Have you given up praying about something because its too hard or because you never see anything happening? I most definitely have.

Its easy to get discouraged and I have been discouraged about many things and had given up praying about them. However, in the return of Murray, I have been reminded not to give up - my God is faithful and he is calling me to pray and not give up. So that’s what I am going to do.
