Casey Missional works
At the Casey Combined Church Service last weekend, where the Hammonds were commissioned, a pastor from the Casey Pastor’s Network outlined some of the local missions work being done by local churches. So here’s some inspiration for us as we look to what we want the Junction to be doing.
Background first. The Casey Pastors Network has been running for 15 years and has 46 local churches connected to it. It also comprises the Casey Youth Network and the Casey Leaders Network.
Meals are a big mission field. Cornerstone in Doveton are hosting meals for the homeless twice a week, breakfast is being provided at the station at Narre Warren and at Lyndhurst Secondary College (both once a week). The Winepress is hosting a Christmas dinner soon for single parent families. (sorry I didn’t get all the church names)
South Eastern is behind a bike maintenance program at Mossgield Park Primary and Berwick Church of Christ is mentoring kids and running hobby clubs at Brentwood Park Primary.
There are chaplaincys at Berwick, Narre P-12 and Lyndhurst Secondarys and Christian Religious Education at many Primary schools. Many churches are supporting Captain Eric (Rickman) and the CHIPS program and also Southern Cross camps for needy children.
Many churches are playing sports, with some of South Eastern’s teams going to play against teams in prisons
Many churches offer counselling, some offer music tuition, job training and of course there will be many carol’s services run with community partnerships.
The City of Casey has been presented with an award by the Federal Government for their Promoting families in peace project, which is a partnership with Casey Community Health and the Casey Pastors Network.
So what can the Junction do?
