All called to be priests
Steve continued his musings, this time focusing more on the ministry.
The New Testament is like the Last Will & Testament of God. The Old Testament was the priesthood - the tribe of Levi were the priests. The New Testament - we are all priests.
*”You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ … But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” *(1 Peter 2:5-9).
Once we become a new person, all we do is spiritual. Not just for a few people, for those who have been ordained as ministers or apostles, or pastors, or……, but for all of us. It’s not about a couple of hours on Sunday, it’s not about clergy and laity. Steve has a piece of paper saying he is an ordained minister - God hasn’t read it.
Regardless of what you do, it’s not about going to church to listen to the pastor speak - which will cover you for the next week.
When you leave church on Sundays, if you live on $2 a day (Ken and Live below the line), when you help kids (Ally and Samaritans’ purse), its an intensely spiritual act.
We have to stop doing the one single sermon and work out how we do God’s will on earth, as it is in heaven. We are supposed to get involved in it, not just say the Lord’s Prayer.
Subversive Acts of Unterror - simple acts of kindness, without fanfare, billboards or bumper stickers. Help someone. One simple act of giving hope.
We are different, we act, behave, spend, consume like it; serve and do things without expectation. That’s our witness.
**The Lord's Prayer:**
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
